Responsibilities
Endoscopy Technician Assists the nurses and physicians in providing
care for the endoscopy patient. Must complete competencies for all
basic GI procedures and scope reprocessing. Supports the area with
duties that include, but are not limited to, preparation of the
procedure room and sterile field to ensure a safe patient care
environment: including gathering all required instruments and
supplies; and serving as an endoscopy procedure assistant. Also
includes transportation of patients and equipment, stocking /
maintaining supplies, care and maintenance of endoscopes and their
accessories. Contributing to the daily functions of the unit. Must
have strong sense of infection control in the GI setting.
Hours: F/T Days = 10 hours X 4 days a week
ON CALL : Weekend & Overnight for emergencies - 45 minutes to
respond to Call.
Techs rotate Night Call & Weekend Call
Qualifications
Required Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED
required.
Required Minimum Certification: Must pass SGNA Associates Program
within 3 months of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
through American Heart Association (AHA) is required.
Required Minimum Experience : Previous hospital clinical
experience; endoscopy experience highly preferred. No endoscopy
experience is required. Successful completion of 2-day system
endoscopy education is required within 30 days of hire. Successful
completion of on-the-job training with documentation of orientation
and all competencies met (specific competencies determined by
facility of employment).
Required Minimum Skills : Ability to read, write and speak the
English language. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate with other healthcare providers in the
provision of patient care. Competency in all aspects of GI
procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation
protection. Ability to delegate to other team members as required.
Ability to multi-task is essential. Ability to function in
stressful and emergent situations is essential. Strong detail
orientation required. Proficiency in all general GI procedures is
required. Computer skills may be required. Emergency call coverage
requirements specific to facility of employment.
