Responsibilities


The Director Revenue Management, in collaboration with the health system’s hospital management and departments which affect the revenue cycle, is responsible for the development, organization and ongoing revenue management and reimbursement functions for the WellStar Health System. This position reports to the Executive Director of Revenue Management.


This leader has accountability to develop strategies that integrate practices, policies, procedures and service levels throughout the health System for the ultimate implementation of standardized charging, billing and revenue management while staying within the legal boundaries of compliance for the state and federal government.


The incumbent will be empowered to establish a continuous improvement on processes that maximize technical resources, enhance service delivery, standardize systems and effect appropriate cost controls within the revenue cycle. He/she oversees primary areas, each with a dedicated manager which include hospital billing/follow-up, cash management, denials/ payment variance, revenue integrity and customer service. This individual provides leadership and management oversight for revenue cycle areas as directed. He/she performs complex data analysis and makes independent decisions within the scope of responsibility.


This leader Interacts with executives, other directors, and all members of Revenue Cycle within WellStar Health System, including leaders of health information management, corporate compliance, accounting and medical group revenue cycle. External contacts consist of patients and their families, insurance companies, state and federal agencies, auditors, and vendors. Develops business plans which align and integrate resources for service excellence, employee engagement, and financial growth


Qualifications


Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business-related field required. Master’s of Business Administration or Health Administration preferred.

Required Minimum Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in healthcare reimbursement or related field which requires a demonstrated knowledge of hospital billing, reimbursement and revenue management. Minimum of 7 years in a management position or a combination of five (5) years of experience managing a team directly and two (2) or more years of experience significant project or functional leadership.

Required Minimum Skills: Strong interpersonal and persuasiveness skills. Must be comfortable interacting with physicians, administrators and all levels of management and Senior Leadership. Strong leadership skills including the management of multiple processes in separate and different cultures throughout the health system. Strong performance skills and experience with an emphasis on change management. The ability to develop consensus from independent parties to achieve the overall goals of the health system.

Knowledge of state and federal regulations as they pertain to billing processes and procedures.

 

Knowledge of insurance claim processing and third-party reimbursement. Knowledge and detailed understanding of all negotiated agreements. Knowledge of the principles of Information Systems to effectively analyze and make decisions. Skill in good oral, written, and interpersonal communication. Skill in problem solving in a variety of settings. Skill in technical or professional accounting. Skill in time management and project management.

 

Ability to work efficiently under pressure. Ability to operate a computer and related applications. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Ability to apply appropriate supervisory, management and leadership techniques in an operational setting. Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Ability to demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and to operationalize that learning.

Ability to deal effectively with constant changes and be a change agent.

Ability to deal effectively with difficult people and/or difficult situations.

Ability to willingly accept responsibility and/or delegate responsibility.

Ability to set priorities and use good judgment for self and staff.

Ability to effectively manage complex vendor relationships.

Ability to interpret and ensure compliance of complex vendor contractual agreements
