Job Description:

At WellStar, we all share common goals. That's what makes us so successful - and such an integral part of our communities. We want the same things, for our organization, for our patients, and for our colleagues. As the most integrated healthcare provider in Georgia, this means we pride ourselves on investing in the communities that we serve. We continue to provide innovative care models, focused on improving quality and access to healthcare.

As we continue to expand the strongest behavioral medicine program in Georgia, Wellstar's Behavioral Health Service Line is pleased to announce a new position for a Clinical Health Psychologist. This clinician will support the Wellstar Medical Group's Health Psychology service at Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center (KRMC), providing inpatient (e.g., LVAD) and outpatient (e.g., bariatric; spinal cord stimulator) pre-surgical psychological assessments and health psychology interventions to support patients with co-occurring physical and mental health conditions.

The Health Psychology service at Wellstar Health System offers specialty programs in cardiovascular behavioral medicine, metabolic health/bariatrics, psychosocial oncology, pain psychology, etc. This is a cross-cutting (i.e. health psychology generalist) position that will collaborate with the overall health psychology team to provide support for various patient populations. While the intention is to provide generalized health psychology services, there is an opportunity to carve out a specialization in areas such as women's health, digestive health, chronic pulmonary disease, etc. Approximately 25-35% of this clinician's role will entail assessment and 65-75% health & behavior interventions and/or psychotherapy.

**Setting:** Wellstar Health System is a not-for-profit 11-hospital system, recognized as the 5th most integrated health system in the United States, and is the largest health system in Georgia. Wellstar Health System is a member of the Mayo Clinic Network. For this position, services will be provided in an outpatient clinic proximal to (and on-site at) the KRMC campus. Located in Marietta, Georgia, KRMC is Wellstar's flagship hospital, a 650+ bed Level II trauma and tertiary hospital providing graduate medical education and other clinical training opportunities. KRMC serves much of northern Georgia and many underserved areas of the state. This position represents a strategic expansion of Wellstar's Behavioral Medicine services . Operational support for this position will originate within the Medical Group's Psychological Services practice. Wellstar psychologists hold full Medical Staff privileges at the KRMC and other Wellstar hospitals.

**Duties/Responsibilities:** The candidate we are seeking will need a diverse skill set. Duties will include providing pre-surgical psychological evaluations for patients pursing bariatric surgery, left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation, spinal cord stimulation implantation, etc. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of the motivations of patients pursuing such procedures and the risks associated with them. The candidate will also possess proficiency in the application of intervention methods and treatments that will help patients experience optimal outcomes. Teaching opportunities may be available with area doctoral students.

**Skills Needed:** The ideal candidate will possess advanced assessment skills in the area of clinical health psychology, understand the various presentations of patients presenting for candidacy, nd how these presentations can impact clinical outcomes. He/She should be a collaborator with other clinical health psychologists, and should possess a strong grasp of evidence-based health psychology interventions to help patients modify health behaviors that could interfere with their candidacy for life-changing procedures. The candidate should possess fluency with medical nomenclature, and work effectively with medical providers, patients, and families throughout the continuum of care.

**Required Minimum Education:** (1) a doctorate degree (Ph.D./Psy.D.) in clinical or counseling psychology from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), (2) completion of an APA-accredited internship in a medical setting, (3) completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Health Psychology, and (4) licensure or license-eligibility as a Psychologist in the State of Georgia.
