**CLINICAL HEALTH PSYCHOLOGIST**
As we continue to expand the strongest behavioral medicine
program in Georgia, Wellstar's Behavioral Health Service Line is
pleased to announce a new position for a Clinical Health
Psychologist. This clinician will support the Wellstar Medical
Group's Health Psychology service at Wellstar Kennestone Regional
Medical Center (KRMC), providing inpatient (e.g., LVAD) and
outpatient (e.g., bariatric; spinal cord stimulator) pre-surgical
psychological assessments and health psychology interventions to
support patients with co-occurring physical and mental health
The Health Psychology service at Wellstar Health System offers
specialty programs in cardiovascular behavioral medicine, metabolic
health/bariatrics, psychosocial oncology, pain psychology, etc.
This is a cross-cutting (i.e. health psychology generalist)
position that will collaborate with the overall health psychology
team to provide support for various patient populations. While the
intention is to provide generalized health psychology services,
there is an opportunity to carve out a specialization in areas such
as women's health, digestive health, chronic pulmonary disease,
etc. Approximately 25-35% of this clinician's role will entail
assessment and 65-75% health & behavior interventions and/or
**Setting:** Wellstar Health System is a not-for-profit
11-hospital system, recognized as the 5th most integrated health
system in the United States, and is the largest health system in
Georgia. Wellstar Health System is a member of the Mayo Clinic
Network. For this position, services will be provided in an
outpatient clinic proximal to (and on-site at) the KRMC campus.
Located in Marietta, Georgia, KRMC is Wellstar's flagship hospital,
a 650+ bed Level II trauma and tertiary hospital providing graduate
medical education and other clinical training opportunities. KRMC
serves much of northern Georgia and many underserved areas of the
state. This position represents a strategic expansion of Wellstar's
Behavioral Medicine services . Operational support for this
position will originate within the Medical Group's Psychological
Services practice. Wellstar psychologists hold full Medical Staff
privileges at the KRMC and other Wellstar hospitals.
**Duties/Responsibilities:** The candidate we are seeking will
need a diverse skill set. Duties will include providing
pre-surgical psychological evaluations for patients pursing
bariatric surgery, left ventricular assist device (LVAD)
implantation, spinal cord stimulation implantation, etc. The ideal
candidate will possess an understanding of the motivations of
patients pursuing such procedures and the risks associated with
them. The candidate will also possess proficiency in the
application of intervention methods and treatments that will help
patients experience optimal outcomes. Teaching opportunities may be
available with area doctoral students.
**Skills Needed:** The ideal candidate will possess advanced
assessment skills in the area of clinical health psychology,
understand the various presentations of patients presenting for
candidacy, nd how these presentations can impact clinical outcomes.
He/She should be a collaborator with other clinical health
psychologists, and should possess a strong grasp of evidence-based
health psychology interventions to help patients modify health
behaviors that could interfere with their candidacy for
life-changing procedures. The candidate should possess fluency with
medical nomenclature, and work effectively with medical providers,
patients, and families throughout the continuum of care.
**Required Minimum Education:** (1) a doctorate degree
(Ph.D./Psy.D.) in clinical or counseling psychology from a program
accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), (2)
completion of an APA-accredited internship in a medical setting,
(3) completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Health
Psychology, and (4) licensure or license-eligibility as a
Psychologist in the State of Georgia. Whereas active
board-certification is not required at the time of hire, the
clinician should possess board-certification in Clinical Health
Psychology within 24 months of the date of hire.
