Job Title: Mammography Technologist Profession: Mammography Tech

Saturday & Sunday 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM Experience: Minimum 1 year
experience as a Radiologic Technologist and Minimum 1 year
experience in Mammography preferred License: ARRT Mammography, ARRT
Radiography Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Must-Have:
Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be
dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Description: Assists with
providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all
exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and
ability to properly and safely obtain quality diagnostic studies.
Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures
requiring independent judgment and initiative in the utilization of
equipment for diagnosis and treatment. Able to independently
perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging
services and positions patients for procedures. Must maintain
minimum FDA/MQSA requirements for continuing education, experience,
and equipment. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Patient Care: Obtains complete clinical history, gathers
examination data, and assesses contraindicating conditions. Ensures
that all studies have proper patient identification and that
markers are utilized appropriately. Reviews images for clinically
acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency
situations. Uses critical thinking skills. Seeks clarification on
ambiguous orders. Assists other technologists in all modalities as
needed. Observes patient conditions and evaluates situations for
necessary physician intervention. Verifies two unique patient
identifiers per policy and confirms proper clinician orders before
procedures. Ensures patient privacy and comfort. Demonstrates
competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures,
equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age.
Understands and documents pre-procedure verification and time-out
processes as applicable. Organizes schedule, time, and priorities
to accomplish required activities within designated time frames.
Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and
exams. Practices RBAC (Read Back and Confirm) for verbal orders.
Equipment: Demonstrates ability to adjust techniques for optimal
imaging quality. Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate
personnel. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment according to
infection control policies. Operates all radiographic equipment
safely and competently. Education and Communication: Clearly
explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients to minimize
anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Ensures that patient questions
and concerns are satisfactorily addressed, notifying the physician
when necessary. Participates in the orientation and training of
departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory
instructions and explanations of procedures. Ensures documentation
is concise and uses precise terminology. Reads departmental
communications regularly and follows through with assignments.
Completes mandatory education without prompting. Quality Control:
Produces acceptable images and maintains a high first-time
acceptance rate. Ensures equipment is operational before each use.
Completes all studies in the system, ensuring proper orientation,
marking, and labeling. Maintains documentation to meet
accreditation standards. Knowledgeable in completing and
documenting quality control tests as applicable. Operations:
Restocks linens and supplies and maintains the department in an
orderly condition. Transports and positions patients, assisting as
needed. Performs patient charging activities on service days.
Applies shielding and maintains patient follow-up data. Willingly
assists others and performs routine duties as needed to ensure
continuity. Keeps supervisors informed of responsibilities and
potential issues. Maintains an individual productivity rate in line
with co-workers. Familiar with mammography tracking systems and
applicable regulatory standards. Fulfills other duties as assigned.
Complies with all relevant policies, standards of work, and codes
of conduct. Exhibits excellent communication skills for effective
collaboration with all stakeholders. Functions independently and
under pressure while participating in a team. Demonstrates
excellent customer service skills. Prioritizes tasks effectively
and multitasks throughout the work shift. Interacts professionally
with patients, families, co-workers, and physicians. Possesses an
understanding of anatomy and pathology related to procedure
quality.
