Job Description Job Description Description: Commercial Service Plumber Apprentice Classification Hourly/Non-Exempt Salary Grade/Level/Family/Range varies depending on union contract Reports to Site Foreman JOB DESCRIPTION Summary/Objective An apprentice plumber is an entry-level plumber working under the guidance of a more experienced tradesman. Apprentice plumbers perform many of the same tasks that veteran plumbers do, including installing new plumbing fixtures, unclogging plumbing systems, and repairing pipes. They may handle easier jobs on their own and act as a helper on more complex jobs. This job can take place in a range of locations, from commercial buildings and businesses to clients’ homes. Initiative, decisiveness, tact, integrity, judgment, and technical knowledge are essential to achieving departmental and corporate goals. Job related contact can occur virtually with all demographic groups, with most daily contacts being with MAXAIR, Inc. employees and departmental customers. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Identify location of leaks, so repairs can be made. Follow local building codes, particularly in larger commercial spaces where the plumbing system will be much larger. Diagnose problem, then help make necessary repairs. Depending on the issue, this may involve cutting into walls or tearing up concrete to access pipes an repairing or replacing sections of pipe to stop leaks, using a rooter to clean clogs, or perform minor repairs to dripping fixtures. Determine the equipment needed to make the repairs or install the plumbing. · Work with supervisor on job charges, equipment, materials and labor costs. Helping prepare cost estimates for clients. · Membership with Local Union 72 and enrolled in apprenticeship program. Competencies Problem-Solving. Physical Strength. Dexterity. Mechanical Skills. Fabrication experience a plus. Checks own work and maintains high level of detail. Communication Skills. Supervisory Responsibility · This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment · Work is typically on new or remodels of commercial buildings. It may be outside or inside, often in tight spaces. Temperature of areas of work can vary from cold to hot, depending on season and job site. Physical Demands · The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. · While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is often required to be able to lift 50 or more lbs. There are times that work spaces may be confined, hot and sometimes cold, if outside. There will be times that employee will need to be able to climb a ladder. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work · This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are on occasions over time and weekend work. Travel · There may be some travel to jobsites within Georgia.
